Pill take back

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has set up a program that allows the public to drop off unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs during regular business hours Monday through Friday at the Destin substation on Stahlman Avenue.

The JobsPlus Mobile one stop will be at the Destin Community Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third Thursday of each month. Services include unemployment compensation, job search assistance and Employ Florida Marketplace registration.

Chocoholic Frenzy 

The 22nd Annual Chocoholic Frenzy will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Westwood Retirement Center atrium in Fort Walton Beach. everything chocolate and homemade will be for sale for $10. The Fifth Annual great Turkey Campout begins at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. Customers are invited to bring their tents and camp out all night on the parking lot at Bass Pro Shops at Destin Commons to be the first in line to enter the store the next morning. They can enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and s’mores from 5-8 p.m. around the fire pits and there will be special drawings for prizes.

Natural gas vehicle workshop

The seven natural gas entities in Northwest Florida, including Okaloosa Gas District, have banded together in a regional effort to bring “the Compelling Case for Natural Gas Vehicles” workshop to our area. Stephe Yborra, with the clean Vehicle Education Foundation, will present his one-day workshop from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Grand Sandestin at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

Environmental Interpretation class

The UF/IFAS Okaloosa County Extension Service in partnership with the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge will offer the Master Naturalist Environmental Interpretation Special Topic module from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 6-8 at the Okaloosa Island Public Safety Center in Fort Walton Beach.  the 24-hour modules cost $150.  Participants have the opportunity to practice skills and techniques presented in class. Each workshop includes a practical activity where concepts introduced during the workshop are reinforced. The Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida in Valparaiso announces Old-time Saturdays for children and families, programs that will engage kids by utilizing authentic historic museum collections with hands-on activities to entertain and educate.
